Google AI Overviews in India & Singapore: What Actually Ranks

AI Overviews now sit above the classic SERP for 30 to 40 percent of Indian and Singaporean commercial queries. Here is what feeds them.

GEO AI Overviews Google India Singapore

Google's AI Overview - the summary block that appears above the ten blue links - is now shown on an estimated 30 to 40 percent of commercial and informational queries in India and Singapore, based on our tracking of a 500-keyword panel across the two markets. Winning in AI Overviews is a distinct discipline from winning in classic SERPs.

The sources AI Overviews prefer

  • Reddit threads - Google has a paid content licence with Reddit and pulls from it heavily.
  • YouTube - especially for how-to and comparison queries.
  • LinkedIn posts and articles - surprisingly weighted for B2B queries.
  • Established publications - Business Standard, Economic Times, Straits Times, Business Times, Campaign Asia.
  • Directory sites - Clutch, GoodFirms, DesignRush, G2, TrustRadius. These dominate 'best of' AI Overviews.
  • Wikipedia and Wikidata - for entity-level context.

What this means for a services brand

If your entire SEO strategy is owned content on your own domain, you will lose the AI Overview slot to whichever directory or Reddit thread mentions three competitors and not you. The fix is deliberate presence on the sources AI Overviews cite: a Clutch profile, a GoodFirms listing, a LinkedIn newsletter, a YouTube channel with three to five explainer videos.

Local intent is enormous in these markets

'Digital marketing agency Bangalore', 'HubSpot partner Singapore', 'SEO company Coimbatore' - these queries all trigger AI Overviews. The overviews almost always cite a directory (Clutch or GoodFirms), one or two agency websites with strong local pages, and a Reddit or Quora thread. Compete on all three, not just the last.

Practical 30-day GEO sprint

  • Week 1 - Claim and complete Clutch, GoodFirms and DesignRush profiles.
  • Week 2 - Publish location pages for every office with LocalBusiness JSON-LD, address, and two local case studies.
  • Week 3 - Publish two 'best of' pieces on your own domain and syndicate the summary to LinkedIn.
  • Week 4 - Answer three high-intent Reddit and Quora threads with genuine expertise, not marketing copy.

That single sprint typically moves a brand from zero to two or three AI Overview citations per week in target markets. It compounds from there.
